
Filmmaker and television producer Kayode Peters has been laid to rest in Canada. The 49-year-old passed away on June 28 in Toronto after a battle with an undisclosed illness. He was buried on Saturday, August 2, 2025, following a funeral service attended by close family and friends.
A video circulating on social media showed emotional scenes from the burial, with mourners gathered around as his body was lowered into the grave.The service, conducted in accordance with Christian traditions, featured heartfelt tributes and hymns. Attendees were seen tearfully singing “It Is Well” during the solemn ceremony.
Peters was widely respected for his contributions as an actor, producer, and director, with a career that spanned both television and theatre. He began his artistic journey with Theatre 15, a drama group based at the University of Lagos, before transitioning into television, where he made a significant mark.He gained prominence in 2004 with the creation of the popular sitcom Flatmates and later served as executive producer of its reboot, My Flatmates.
Peters also played key roles in the development of other successful shows such as Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco and Company, leaving behind a lasting legacy that helped define Nigeria’s modern entertainment landscape.
