The Anambra State Police Command has issued a warning to social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, concerning actions that could disrupt public peace in the state. In a statement released in Awka on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the warning followed Otse’s plan to hold a candlelight procession in memory of Ifesinachi Onyekere, the former Managing Director of Fish Magnet outlet, who was recently abducted and killed by suspected gunmen. Otse claimed the event aimed to highlight the deteriorating security situation in Anambra State, but the police advised him to avoid inflammatory remarks or activities that could incite unrest.
According to the statement, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu noted that the family of the late Onyekere had publicly disassociated itself from any planned or ongoing memorial events. The family has requested privacy as they mourn and expressed confidence in law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.
CP Orutugu emphasized that Anambra remains one of the most peaceful states in the region due to the continued efforts of security agencies and key stakeholders. He made it clear that no individual, regardless of social media influence, would be allowed to compromise the state’s peace and security.
The police command encouraged residents to go about their daily lives without fear, assuring them of its commitment to upholding law and order. It also called on social media users and public figures to behave responsibly and refrain from spreading misinformation or making comments that could cause tension. Anyone found to be disturbing public peace, whether online or offline, will face legal consequences, Ikenga warned.
