A severe accident has left Otabor Bodon Ruth, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, in critical condition after her left leg was amputated and her other leg placed at risk. The incident occurred on Wednesday near Auchi Polytechnic and involved a heavy-duty truck reportedly linked to the Dangote Group. Phyna alleged on social media that Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and his company were protecting the truck’s driver from facing justice.
“From all that has happened, you told the Nigerian police to remove the plate number on the truck that crushed my sister… Everybody else takes priority over her,” Phyna wrote in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday night, tagging Dangote and the Dangote Group.
Actress Kate Henshaw also expressed outrage, stating that the truck is currently impounded at the Auchi police station. She claimed the driver initially fled but was caught after a lecturer who witnessed the incident chased him down. Henshaw further alleged that attempts were being made to prevent the family and the school from gaining access to the vehicle and details about its custody.
Social media activist VeryDarkMan posted a video from JETU Hospital showing Ruth in critical condition. “This girl is fighting for her life, yet all the focus is on protecting the truck and its driver instead of ensuring justice,” he said, accusing the Dangote Group and the police of prioritizing concealment over accountability.
According to Legit.ng, Ruth’s left leg was amputated from the pelvic region, and she sustained severe injuries to her head, hands, and remaining leg. Phyna described the ordeal as a “devastating blow” to her family, especially since Ruth had only graduated a few days earlier.
Online supporters are now calling for the Dangote Group to accept full responsibility and for the investigation to remain transparent. VeryDarkMan vowed, “We will not allow them to release that truck or that driver. Justice must be served for Ruth.”As of the time of filing this report, neither Aliko Dangote nor the Dangote Group has publicly responded to the allegations.
