Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has returned to Germany after medical concerns stalled his proposed loan move from Bayer Leverkusen to AC Milan. The 24-year-old travelled to Italy ahead of the transfer and underwent tests at La Madonnina clinic and Galeazzi Hospital in Milan, but was sent back after doubts about his fitness arose. Boniface has a history of injuries, including a right knee issue in 2019 and 2020, and muscle problems that sidelined him for part of last season.
Milan sporting director Paolo Tare said the club is taking extra time before making a decision. He noted that Boniface’s talent is unquestioned but stressed that the player’s health and long-term fitness remain the priority. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the forward returned to Leverkusen on Sunday, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Milan could abandon the deal.
AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen had already agreed on a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million purchase option. The Rossoneri are looking for a striker after losing Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham this summer. Boniface joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2022 and helped the club win the Bundesliga title in 2024, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 27 appearances last season.
