Multi-award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has set a new record with her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, which has emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025, raking in ₦2.103 billion within one month of release. The FilmOne Entertainment–distributed production shattered five box office records during its opening weekend, including the highest single-day earnings on Boxing Day, when it made ₦129.5 million.

Reacting to the milestone, the distributor announced that Behind The Scenes had crossed the ₦2 billion mark, becoming the first Nollywood film in Africa to achieve this feat. The movie is now the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time across Africa, the UK, and Ireland. The achievement also makes Funke Akindele the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years. She now holds the record as West Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, writer, director, and producer.

This latest success marks Akindele’s third film to surpass ₦1 billion in box office earnings, further strengthening her reputation as a dominant force in the Nigerian film industry. The film’s strong performance has been credited to its early screenings, star-studded cast, and engaging storyline that explores themes of family, loyalty, and social pressure.

Actors such as Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana delivered standout performances that connected with audiences nationwide. Expressing her appreciation, Akindele thanked her fans for their support, describing them as family and acknowledging that the milestone would not have been possible without their continued encouragement.
