Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has dismissed rumours of his death after a viral post falsely claimed he had passed away.On Friday, the 69-year-old shared a video on Instagram alongside a screenshot of the fake report, which alleged he died from complications of diabetes and spine surgery.
Reacting, Agu said the rumour was the handiwork of bloggers chasing attention. “I, Chief Chiwetalu Agu of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, am not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. I am yet to carry my grandchildren, and I must do so in good health,” he said.
The actor noted that if the false report had originated from a major blogger, he might have taken legal action for defamation and economic damage. He expressed disappointment that some people were quick to write condolence messages without verifying the claim.
He urged fans to disregard the rumour and report the page behind it. “I am very much alive by God’s grace,” he assured. Agu’s clarification follows similar recent incidents involving Nigerian entertainers. Only days earlier, juju music legend Ebenezer Obey appeared in a video with his sons to debunk reports that he had died or suffered a stroke, describing the claims as “lies from the kingdom of darkness.”
