The Dangote Petroleum Refinery will on Monday, September 15, begin deploying compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks under its logistics-free distribution programme, aimed at driving down fuel prices nationwide. According to a company statement, the new arrangement will cut the gantry price to N820 per litre, with retail pump prices in key states adjusted accordingly. In Lagos and other South-West states, petrol will sell at N841 per litre, while Abuja, Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Kwara will have pump prices set at N851 per litre.

The first phase of the rollout will cover the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Kwara, Delta, Edo, Rivers, and other South-West states, with plans to expand nationwide as more trucks are delivered. The CNG initiative is projected to save the Nigerian economy over N1.8 trillion annually by reducing distribution costs, cutting fuel prices, and easing inflationary pressure. It is also expected to benefit more than 42 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by lowering energy expenses and boosting profitability.

Dangote Group, which has invested over N720 billion in the programme, said the project will also revive dormant filling stations across the country and create jobs for truck drivers, station managers, and attendants. The company urged stakeholders—including filling station operators, telecoms firms, and major fuel consumers—to partner with the scheme to maximise its economic impact.
