FCT Announces Free Health Insurance and Caesarean Section for All Pregnant Women

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has introduced a free health insurance scheme and complimentary caesarean section services for all pregnant women residing in the area.

The announcement was made by the FCTA’s Mandate Secretary for Health, Adedolapo Fasewa, during the 2025 World Health Day celebration held at Gwarimpa District Hospital in Abuja. Fasewa noted that to access the free C-section services, pregnant women must be enrolled in the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS), which also includes postnatal infant care.

Highlighting the severity of maternal health issues, she pointed out that Nigeria currently has the highest maternal mortality rate in sub-Saharan Africa. She emphasized that the current administration is committed to reversing this trend and improving both maternal and infant health outcomes.

Fasewa called on all women to take advantage of the free health insurance initiative, stressing that reducing maternal mortality requires joint efforts beyond the federal government alone.
