A suspected drug peddler and alleged member of a criminal gang has been killed during a police operation at Sabuwar Anguwa, Katsina Local Government Area of Katsina State. The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, when the Central Market Surveillance Team, led by ASP Audu Isah, acted on credible intelligence to raid the area. During the operation, one Uzairu Abubakar, also known as Uzairu Kuda, described as a notorious drug dealer and member of the Kauraye miscreants, was arrested.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect was found in possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, Pregabalin tablets and Colorado. However, during the arrest, the suspect allegedly resisted and raised an alarm, attracting other gang members who attacked the police team. The attackers were said to have damaged the rear windscreen of a covert Honda Jazz vehicle used by the operatives.

Sources further disclosed that the suspect drew a knife and stabbed the second-in-command of the surveillance team, ASP Ibrahim Yusuf, in the neck. In the ensuing confrontation, the officer reportedly discharged his firearm, injuring the suspect. Uzairu Abubakar was rushed to the General Hospital in Katsina, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Recovered exhibits included the suspected drugs and the weapon allegedly used during the attack.
