The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismantled two illegal alcohol production syndicates in Lagos, seizing counterfeit and adulterated beverages valued at ₦350 million.
Acting on credible intelligence, enforcement teams raided facilities at Zamfara Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex and various locations on Lagos Island, recovering over 1,800 cartons of illicit products. At the Trade Fair site, officials discovered makeshift factories outfitted with mixing tanks, improvised filters, and stockpiles of branded bottles and packaging materials used to mimic genuine brands.
During the related raid on Lagos Island, one suspect was apprehended for the production and retail distribution of the toxic drinks. NAFDAC has since evacuated the seized items and issued a stern warning that consuming adulterated alcohol can lead to severe health complications, including organ failure and death.
The agency reaffirmed its dedication to prosecuting those responsible and urged the public to buy only from authorized vendors. Consumers are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious manufacturing activities to NAFDAC’s official channels.
