The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has instructed all Federal Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria to publicly advertise any available job openings across accessible platforms.
This directive, issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, underscores the Ministry’s renewed efforts to promote fairness, transparency, and accountability in the nation’s education sector.
According to a press release issued Wednesday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister emphasized that institutions granted recruitment waivers must publish available positions in at least one national newspaper, on their official websites, and through relevant academic or professional channels.
The Ministry stated that this initiative is aimed at creating equal access to employment opportunities for all qualified Nigerians while addressing non-transparent hiring practices that have plagued the system.
It also clarified that recruitment waivers were granted based on verified manpower needs submitted by each institution and reviewed by the Ministry accordingly. The release further affirmed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening human capacity development across higher education institutions and reminded institutions to submit their staffing needs to the Waiver and Recruitment Committee for thorough evaluation.
Additionally, the Ministry warned that non-compliance with the directive would attract penalties. “The Ministry has implemented monitoring mechanisms to enforce this policy and will impose appropriate sanctions on any institution that violates the directive,” the statement warned.
Boriowo Folasade concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s strong commitment to upholding transparency, fairness, and merit in Nigeria’s higher education recruitment processes.
