In a coordinated security effort to boost public safety across Kaduna State, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued 17 abducted individuals, recovered 21 locally manufactured AK-47 rifles, and neutralized three robbery suspects, according to a briefing by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The operations, carried out on April 9, 2025, reflect the commitment of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to aggressively tackle violent crimes and dismantle criminal syndicates across the country.
Relying on credible intelligence and working closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Kaduna State Police Command rescued 17 victims who were abducted over a month ago in Sarkin Pawa, Niger State. The rescued individuals, including infants as young as one year old, were safely recovered through a non-combative, intelligence-driven operation. Medical assessments conducted at the Police Clinic in Kaduna confirmed that all victims are in stable condition.
In a separate incident on the same day, officers intercepted a commercial Volkswagen Sharan vehicle at Kawo Central Motor Park in Kaduna. Upon inspection, 21 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles were discovered concealed inside the vehicle.
The driver, 27-year-old Jamilu Suleiman from Rafin Guza, Kaduna, was taken into custody. Initial findings revealed that he was acting on instructions from a transport union member to deliver the weapons to an undisclosed recipient. A full investigation is now underway to trace the broader arms trafficking network.
Additionally, around 5:00 a.m. that same morning, police responded to an armed robbery alert at Doggi Farm along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway. Officers from Tafa Division engaged approximately 30 robbers in a gunfight, killing two on site and injuring two others. One of the wounded suspects later succumbed to his injuries, while the other is in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. The police are actively pursuing the remaining members of the gang.
ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the police’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property and emphasized that similar intelligence-led operations will continue nationwide.
