The Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic diversion strategy ahead of scheduled repair works on the Ogudu/Ifako Bridge. The long-awaited rehabilitation project is set to begin on Saturday, June 28, 2025, and will continue through Wednesday, October 15, 2025, covering a period of 110 days.
Repairs will be executed in eight phases on both sides of the bridge, with each phase involving partial lane closures limited to 50 meters before and after the designated work zone.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Phases 1 to 4 will address the section of the bridge heading toward Alapere and will run from June 28 to August 16, 2025.Phases 5 to 8 will focus on the inbound Oworonshoki direction, scheduled from August 16 to October 5, 2025.
The statement noted that disruptions will be minimal, with only the immediate 50-meter stretch near the active work zone closed during each phase. To reduce the impact on road users, the government has provided alternate routes: For Phase One, motorists coming from Iyana Oworo are advised to take the Gbagada route to connect Anthony and then proceed along Ikorodu Road to reach their destinations. One lane near the construction zone will remain open for limited traffic flow. For Phase Two, vehicles from Eko Bridge should use Funsho Williams Avenue to connect to Ikorodu Road.
Commissioner Osiyemi confirmed that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed throughout the duration of the repairs to assist with traffic control and ensure minimal disruption.
