Actor Shia LaBeouf was released from custody after being arrested early on Mardi Gras Day in New Orleans on two counts of simple battery, following allegations that he assaulted two men during a disturbance at a business on Royal Street, according to police and court records.

Court documents show that LaBeouf was taken into custody early Tuesday, February 17, after New Orleans police responded around 12:45 a.m. to the 1400 block of Royal Street. Authorities said he was identified as the individual causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at the establishment. Shia LaBeouf is an American actor and filmmaker who first gained fame as a child star on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens before moving on to major Hollywood roles, including the lead in Transformers and performances in films such as Fury and Honey Boy, the latter of which he also wrote based on his own life. Known for his intense acting and unconventional public persona, LaBeouf has received critical recognition alongside periods of personal controversies. According to Celebritynetworth, his net worth is $20 million.

Police said that after a staff member attempted to remove LaBeouf from the premises and escorted him outside, he allegedly punched one of the victims several times with closed fists. Reports indicated that he briefly left the scene but returned moments later appearing more aggressive, striking the same individual again in the upper body and hitting another person in the nose before being restrained until officers arrived. LaBeouf was taken to a hospital for treatment, though his injuries were not disclosed. He was later released and appeared virtually in court on Tuesday, with his next hearing scheduled for March 19.
