The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s service chiefs and security agency heads, urging citizens to support the nation’s security institutions in the fight against insecurity and the protection of democracy. The group made the call during its Democracy Day Celebration Rally in Abuja, where it emphasised that national security should be viewed as a shared responsibility rather than a political issue.
Speaking at the event, AYA Deputy Speaker for the North Central zone, Mohammed Saad Aboki, described security as a sacred national duty that requires the backing of all Nigerians. He noted that Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance was made possible through the sacrifices of security personnel and institutions tasked with defending the country.
The Assembly also praised President Bola Tinubu for what it described as his strong support for the armed forces and security agencies. According to the group, the President has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening national security as part of his administration’s broader development agenda. AYA further commended key figures within Nigeria’s security architecture, including the Minister of Defence, the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, for their contributions to national stability.
The group subsequently passed what it called a “full and unconditional vote of confidence” in the country’s service chiefs and security leaders, describing them as dedicated patriots committed to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and democratic institutions. The Assembly also appealed to Nigerians to reject division and work together to confront security challenges across the country. It stressed that insecurity affects every part of the nation and can only be defeated through collective action and cooperation between citizens and security agencies. AYA maintained that national unity remains essential to overcoming the country’s security concerns and urged Nigerians to support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability.
