The Anambra State Government has announced plans to build 10,000 low-cost housing units in Isiagu, Awka South LGA, to address accommodation challenges for civil servants and low-income households. Housing Commissioner Paully Onyeka said the project will be executed through a Public–Private Partnership with real estate developers and is set to begin during the dry season. He noted that previous delays caused by disagreements with private partners have been resolved and that the project had already received approval from Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Describing the initiative as a “well-structured plan” to expand access to affordable housing, Onyeka said the development will significantly reduce housing deficits for workers and low-income earners. He added that the governor’s road expansion strategy has made new estate locations in the hinterlands more viable for construction.

The commissioner also highlighted the ministry’s technical role in other infrastructure projects, including upgrading Ekwueme Square, improving Commissioners’ Quarters, and constructing a new Trauma Centre at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku. In addition, the state, in partnership with the Federal Government, plans to build another 500 housing units for low-income earners, aligning with the governor’s vision for affordable housing.
