U.S. President Donald Trump has disclosed that he cautioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against launching strikes on Iranian gas facilities, amid escalating tensions linked to attacks on energy infrastructure. Trump said he personally urged Netanyahu to refrain from carrying out additional assaults on Iran’s gas fields. “I did. I told him, don’t do that, and he won’t do that,” Trump said while speaking in the Oval Office. He noted that although Washington and Tel Aviv work closely together, they do not always see eye to eye.“We get along great. It’s coordinated, but sometimes he’ll do something, and if I don’t like it… and so we’re not doing that anymore,” he stated.
Earlier, Trump had posted on social media that he “knew nothing” about Israel’s strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field. The incident unsettled global energy markets, and Iran retaliated by targeting energy facilities in Qatar. Despite Trump’s public comments, U.S. officials indicated that Washington had prior knowledge of the planned strike but was not directly involved. The situation unfolds as the conflict that began on February 28 continues to influence global oil prices.
Trump has repeatedly said the United States is steering clear of direct attacks on Iran’s energy assets, even as the conflict contributes to rising crude prices. He also warned that Washington could respond forcefully if Iran sustains its offensives, saying the South Pars facility could face extensive strikes if Tehran fails to stop attacks on Qatar. Iranian authorities reacted sharply, declaring they would exercise “zero restraint” if their energy infrastructure is targeted again.
