Arsenal W.F.C. have completed the signing of England midfielder Georgia Stanway following her departure from FC Bayern Munich Women.The 27-year-old joins Arsenal after a successful four-year spell in Germany, where she won eight major trophies, including four Bundesliga titles.
Speaking after completing the move, Stanway said she was proud to join Arsenal, describing the club as one that continues to push the women’s game forward. She added that she hopes to win more trophies and continue developing as a player with the support of the club’s fans.
Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Stanway progressed through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers W.F.C. before making her senior debut at the age of 16 in 2015.Later that year, she joined Manchester City W.F.C., where she spent seven seasons, making 186 appearances and scoring 67 goals while winning one Women’s Super League title, three FA Cups and three League Cups.
Stanway moved to Bayern Munich in 2022 and continued her impressive form, scoring 32 goals in 128 appearances while helping the club secure four Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and two German Super Cups. On the international stage, Stanway has scored 33 goals in 93 appearances for England women’s national football team and played a key role in the Lionesses’ UEFA Women’s European Championship triumphs in 2022 and 2025.
In recognition of her achievements, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2026 New Year Honours. Arsenal’s Director of Women’s Football, Clare Wheatley, described Stanway as one of the world’s best midfielders, praising her leadership, character and winning mentality. Head coach Renée Slegers said the England international would bring a new dimension to Arsenal’s midfield through her experience and competitive spirit ahead of the new season. Stanway will wear the No. 4 shirt for Arsenal.
