Isiya Kwashen Garwa, a notorious bandit leader recently declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters, has reportedly agreed to a peace deal in Katsina State. According to reports by Zagazola Makama, Garwa, whose name is listed among Nigeria’s 19 most-wanted terrorists and bandits, appeared in Hayin Gada community of Faskari Local Government Area, presenting himself as a supporter of dialogue. Garwa, a native of Kamfanin Daudawa in Faskari LGA, has been linked to killings, kidnappings, and raids across forest zones in Katsina and neighbouring states.
Security analysts identify him as part of a wider criminal network destabilising the North-West and North Central through cross-border attacks and exploitation of weak state security structures. Although his violent record raises concerns, his decision to embrace peace is being closely watched by community leaders and security stakeholders. Reactions remain mixed: while some residents welcome it as a chance to restore stability, others doubt his sincerity, citing the atrocities committed by his group.
