ormer Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Laraba-Mallam, has called for increased involvement of women in politics.
Speaking on Sunday, August 18, at a sensitization seminar organized by the Dignity of Women Commission, St. John’s Catholic Church, Kaduna, on the theme “Women Participation in Politics and Guide for Direction,” she expressed concern over the economic situation in the country, which she said has driven youths into trafficking, domestic abuse, kidnapping, among other issues.
The former Minister urged women to step forward and join politics to help build a better nation. She added that the perception of politics as a “dirty game” is a deception.
“We are just beginning to know the truth and we must be very serious about this. God willing, we shall succeed,” she stated.
She emphasized that men currently dominate the economic landscape, comprising 95% of the drivers of the economy. Mrs. Laraba-Mallam highlighted that women are inherently better managers, capable of effectively utilizing resources to support their families and communities.
“No wonder it is said that if you train a woman, you have trained a nation,” she remarked.
She further stressed the importance of having women’s voices in parliament to speak out and condemn the ongoing issues in the country.
