The Yobe State Hisbah Commission, in collaboration with the NDLEA and NSCDC, has sealed Maina Lodge Hotel in Damaturu and seized 209 cartons of alcohol during a coordinated crackdown on illicit substances and immoral practices.
Commission Chairman Dr. Yahuza Abubakar disclosed that the operation targeted a Golf vehicle bearing registration number ABJ-144-SC, which was found loaded with alcohol within the hotel premises. An additional 34 bottles were later uncovered in VIP Room 07 during a follow-up search.
He stated that the hotel has been temporarily shut down as investigations continue to uncover the identities of those responsible for transporting and storing the contraband. In a separate operation, the commission responded to a tip-off from a resident, Waziri Ibrahim, leading to the closure of a residential building allegedly operating as a brothel. The property will remain sealed for three months pending further inquiry.
Dr. Abubakar commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for his continued backing of the commission’s activities and praised the synergy between security agencies in ensuring successful enforcement efforts. He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to upholding the state’s moral codes and urged residents to report any suspicious behavior to authorities as investigations proceed.
