The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with an attack on the family home of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Jose Suberu, was apprehended at the scene on Tuesday. The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect confessed to being involved in the attack. Efforts are ongoing to track down others who fled the scene.
According to a statement from the senator’s media office, armed individuals vandalized several windows during the incident. The attack was disrupted by a combined effort of local police officers, community vigilantes, and concerned youths, leading to the arrest of one of the attackers.
Suberu, described as a ritualist and a native of the area, reportedly admitted to being involved in two prior attacks on the same residence. He was also said to have links to the senator’s political opponents.
A mob attempted to lynch Suberu before he was rescued by security personnel. A cutlass and charms were recovered from him, while the remaining suspects, believed to be armed with dangerous weapons, are still at large. A similar attack occurred in April at the same location, but no arrests were made at the time.
