A fatal accident occurred early Saturday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, claiming the lives of seven individuals and leaving four others injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Route Commander and Chief Public Education Officer, Florence Okupe, on behalf of the Ogun State Sector Command in Abeokuta.
According to the FRSC, a total of 15 people were involved in the crash—13 male adults and two female adults. Seven victims, including six men and one woman, were confirmed dead at the scene, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The cause of the accident was attributed to excessive speeding by a Mack truck, which reportedly lost control and collided with two other vehicles. “The injured victims were taken to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Center Hospital, Ibafo, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue in Sagamu,” the statement noted. Okupe added that the involved vehicles were quickly cleared from the road to prevent further traffic congestion.
Ogun State Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, who visited the crash site to oversee investigations, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged them to contact the FRSC office in Ibafo for further assistance.
