The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, has launched free Wi-Fi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2 and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The service was formally inaugurated on Thursday at MMIA Terminal 2 in Lagos by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented at the event by the Director of Airport Operations, Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood.

The development was announced in a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, and released via the agency’s official X platform on Thursday. According to the statement, the Wi-Fi service is completely free for passengers and other airport users. FAAN added that the initiative will be expanded to cover the MMIA temporary terminal and additional international airports nationwide within the next three months.

Speaking at the launch, Mahmood described the introduction of free Wi-Fi as a major milestone for FAAN, setting a new standard for digital infrastructure and improving passenger experience at Nigerian airports. He said the partnership with MTN Nigeria highlights the role of effective public-private collaboration in modernising infrastructure and supporting the country’s digital economy.

Mahmood also noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the reform drive of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. In her remarks, the Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Nigeria, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, assured users that the Wi-Fi service would be reliable, secure and efficient. She praised FAAN’s management for its cooperation and foresight in ensuring the successful delivery of the project.

Meanwhile, PUNCH Online had earlier reported that FAAN had announced a ban on cash transactions for all airport services nationwide, effective from February 28.FAAN said the clarification became necessary after leaders of several aviation unions visited the agency’s management on Wednesday to seek further explanation on the discontinuation of cash-based transactions at airports across the country.
