Abia State Governor Alex Otti has commissioned the newly constructed Umuahia Central Bus Terminal in Umuahia. Speaking during the inauguration, Otti announced that the terminal was named after Professor Nnenna Nnannaya Oti, describing her as an INEC official who demonstrated courage and sacrifice.
According to the governor, the terminal was conceived by his administration to restore order and safety to transport operations in Umuahia while ensuring the free flow of traffic within the city. The facility, which was officially opened for operations on Wednesday, was named in honour of Professor Nnenna Oti, the former INEC Returning Officer who declared Otti winner of the 2023 governorship election in Abia State.
Otti stated that Professor Oti, alongside other INEC officials and security agencies, resisted bribery, intimidation, electoral impunity, and attempts to manipulate election results during the 2023 polls. The governor, who also commissioned several roads on Wednesday, said the Umuahia Bus Terminal would create economic opportunities for transport operators and contribute to the growth of the state’s economy.

In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and former INEC Returning Officer, Professor Nnenna Oti, maintained that she acted rightly by declaring Otti winner of the 2023 governorship election. “I stood, and I still stand, that votes must count. The wish of the people must count.“I simply did the right thing, and I want Nigeria to do the right thing,” she said.
