The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged stakeholders to unite in addressing insecurity, describing it as a national challenge that requires collective action.Lawmaker Dawood Olalere, representing Ibadan North-West Constituency, noted that kidnapping is no longer confined to forests but is increasingly spreading into urban and semi-urban communities.

He referenced the reported abduction of the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her two sons as a sign of the growing reach of criminal gangs.Olalere called for improved equipment and modern weapons for Amotekun operatives, arguing that personnel armed with locally made weapons are at a disadvantage against heavily armed kidnappers operating in forests and remote areas.

Following deliberations, the Assembly adopted resolutions urging the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Defence and other relevant agencies, to establish a permanent military base in Oriire Local Government Area. Lawmakers also called on the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency to provide trauma counselling, psychosocial support and relief materials for affected families.

In addition, traditional rulers, community leaders and local government authorities were urged to strengthen intelligence gathering and community policing efforts to enhance security at the grassroots level. The Assembly further directed its Committee on Security and Strategy to conduct an oversight visit to Oriire LGA to assess the situation, engage stakeholders and recommend urgent legislative measures to address the security challenges.
