Celebrated Nigerian Afrobeats icon Damini Ogulu, widely recognized as Burna Boy, has secured a historic spot in music history by becoming the very first African musician to lead the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart. The acclaimed artist achieved this peak with his tournament anthem partnership with Shakira on the track ‘Dai Dai,’ which soared to the top position on the charts this week.
This history-making single grabbed the number one position on both the main Billboard Global 200 list and the version excluding the United States. On top of that, the song jumped twelve places to hit a brand new high of number fifty-five on the main United States Hot 100 chart.
This landmark success joins a growing collection of international milestones for Burna Boy, who also recently set a record as the African musician with the largest monthly audience on Spotify, currently drawing over forty-seven million monthly listeners.
