The family of late Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba has postponed her burial indefinitely, less than 24 hours before the ceremony was expected to hold.Osoba was scheduled to be buried on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State. Her funeral service was expected to take place at Saint James Anglican Church before her remains would be interred at the Iperu Remo Cemetery. However, the family announced the postponement on Wednesday through a statement shared on the actress’ official Instagram page.

The announcement came after a candlelight procession and artistes’ tribute night held in her honour at LTV 8, Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday.“With deep sadness, the family of Tope Osoba wishes to inform friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers that the burial ceremony has been postponed until further notice,” the statement reads. The family explained that more time was needed to complete further arrangements and resolve some outstanding matters. It did not disclose the nature of the unresolved issues or provide another date for the burial.

The family said the new date and venue would be announced through its official channels once all necessary arrangements had been completed.“The family respectfully asks everyone for their understanding, patience, prayers, and continued support during this difficult and sensitive period.”It also thanked Osoba’s friends, colleagues and fans who attended the candlelight procession and paid tribute to the late actress.Osoba’s death was announced on August 5, nearly two years after she underwent surgery for breast cancer in November 2024.The postponement comes amid public calls for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi had urged the family to delay the burial until the police conducted an investigation and an autopsy was carried out.Fabiyi said his human rights organisation, Break The Silence Foundation, had submitted a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police. The Celestial Church of Christ also announced an internal investigation following allegations involving Osoba’s fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, who is a shepherd in the church.

The church has not released the outcome of the investigation. The allegations against Onadeko have also not been established.Onadeko had earlier claimed that Osoba died at a police station in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. He did not identify the station. However, members of the actress’ family had rejected some of the reports circulating about her death.Actress Toyosi Adesanya also accused the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria of discouraging some actors from supporting Osoba’s burial. She insisted that the late actress was a registered member of the association’s Eti-Osa chapter.

The family has not stated that the burial postponement is connected to the investigation demands or controversies surrounding Osoba’s death.
