Peter Obi Demands Transparency on New Presidential Jet Purchase

Obi made this appeal in a post shared on his X handle on Tuesday, August 21. He emphasized that despite the denials and conflicting reports regarding the newly acquired jet, its arrival is now confirmed, largely due to information revealed by a French court.

Now that the jet is here, Nigerian taxpayers, whose money was used for its purchase, deserve to know the cost, the age of the aircraft, and how long it has been in operation,” Obi stated.

He further argued that Nigerians are entitled to full disclosure regarding the old jets being sold off, including details on their number, age, and reasons for disposal. Obi stressed that transparency and accountability are essential pillars of genuine leadership.

Obi warned that the federal government risks losing the respect of the populace if it fails to provide clear and adequate information about its leadership actions, especially concerning the use of public funds.

A presidential jet is a major symbol of national sovereignty and state power. The cost associated with transporting the president is a significant matter of public accountability. Nigerians have a right to full disclosure on the new presidential jet,” Obi added.

The Presidency recently confirmed the acquisition of an Airbus A330 business jet, which transported President Tinubu to France on Monday, August 19.
