The Confederation of African Football’s Disciplinary Committee has awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles three points and a 3-0 victory in their abandoned Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, originally set for October 15 in Benina.

Chairman Ousmane Kane’s ruling on Saturday determined the Libyan Football Federation breached multiple regulations, including Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

The Libyan Football Federation was found guilty of violating these regulations, resulting in Libya forfeiting the match with a 3-0 loss.

As a consequence, Libya must pay a $50,000 fine within 60 days.

This ruling propels Nigeria closer to qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with two matches remaining.

The Super Eagles now lead with 10 points from four matches, surpassing Benin Republic by four points and Rwanda by five points.

Libya trails with just one point, effectively ending their qualification hopes.

To seal their spot in the 2025/2026 Morocco finals, the Super Eagles need only a win or draw against Benin Republic’s Cheetahs in Abidjan on November 14 (matchday 5).

The Super Eagles had previously boycotted their match against Libya due to security concerns, following a 22-hour ordeal at Benghazi’s remote Al-Abraq airport.

In response, Libya’s Football Federation (LFF) accused Nigeria’s Football Federation of non-cooperation regarding travel arrangements.

Additionally, the LFF alleged reciprocal treatment, citing the Libyan team’s similar experience at Port Harcourt Airport during the reverse fixture, where they claimed Nigerian authorities left them stranded.
