Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has made a groundbreaking announcement, offering automatic employment to graduates of the state’s foreign scholarship program in engineering, medicine, pharmaceuticals, and other health-related fields. This initiative is a key part of the administration’s efforts to build a skilled workforce and address critical sector shortages. The program aims to provide Kano State with the expertise needed to support growth and innovation in key industries. Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, highlighted the significance of this initiative in a statement reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Recently, the governor welcomed 29 Kano-sponsored post-graduates from India, who completed their master’s degrees at SR University. These graduates are part of a broader initiative by the Kano State Government to sponsor 1,001 students for foreign scholarships.

“Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Saturday announced automatic employment for the state’s foreign scholarship programme graduates in engineering, medicine, pharmaceuticals and other health-related fields,” the NAN report read in part.

The beneficiaries of the program were received at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam, commissioners, and other top government officials. This move demonstrates the state government’s commitment to empowering its youth and driving development through education and innovation.

The foreign scholarship program, a flagship initiative of the Kano State Government, has supported 1,000 postgraduate students. A remarkable 420 graduates have achieved first-class honors, demonstrating the program’s success in fostering academic excellence. The graduates hail from various prestigious institutions worldwide. These include Sharda University, India (150 graduates), Mewar University, India (98 graduates), Symbiosis University, India (58 graduates), and Kalinga University, India (30 graduates). Other institutions represented among the graduates are SR University, India (29 graduates), Swarnim University, India (23 graduates), and the Islamic University, Uganda (33 graduates).

“This initiative is part of our mission to empower the youth and build a prosperous future for Kano State,” he stated at a reception in honor of the returning scholars.

Governor Yusuf praised the graduates for their dedication and academic excellence. He emphasized that the program equips young talents with advanced skills to contribute to the state’s progress. The governor highlighted the program’s role in addressing shortages of skilled healthcare professionals and improving healthcare infrastructure.

“We are proud of your achievements and confident that you will contribute immensely to the state’s growth,” Yusuf added, reaffirming his administration’s vision for leveraging human capital to drive sustainable development in Kano.
