A Lagos Magistrate Court has acquitted Naira Marley, his aide Sam Larry, and Prime Boy of any wrongdoing in the death of singer Mohbad. Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje made the ruling, stating that they had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s demise. The court’s decision was based on the legal advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), Lagos.

The DPP’s advice cleared the trio of any complicity in Mohbad’s death. This development brings an end to the speculation surrounding Naira Marley’s involvement in Mohbad’s death. The court’s ruling is a significant milestone in the case, which has been a subject of public interest.

Instead, the court will prosecute Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad, and his friend Ayobami, for reckless and negligent acts. The prosecution will be based on Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. This development suggests that the investigation into Mohbad’s death has taken a new turn.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, passed away on September 12, 2023, under unclear circumstances. His death sparked widespread outrage, particularly after a video surfaced of Sam Larry assaulting Mohbad. The incident led to a flurry of reactions on social media, with many calling for justice.

The incident led to Naira Marley and Sam Larry’s arrest, detention, and subsequent release on bail. The duo spent over five weeks in police custody before meeting their bail conditions. During their detention, there were reports of Naira Marley and Sam Larry being subjected to harsh treatment.

Following their release, the duo attempted to redeem themselves through charitable acts. However, they continued to face public backlash, with Sam Larry being confronted and embarrassed at a club in May. The incident highlighted the lingering anger and resentment towards Naira Marley and his associates.

The court’s ruling brings some closure to the case, but the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death and Naira Marley’s involvement will likely continue to be debated. The case has sparked a national conversation about the music industry, celebrity culture, and the need for accountability.
