Nigerian Teen Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke Sets Guinness World Record for Largest Canvas PaintingKanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a 15-year-old autistic Nigerian artist, has officially secured the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest painting on canvas by an individual.

His massive artwork, spanning 12,303 square meters, was unveiled at Eagle Square, Abuja, on April 2—World Autism Awareness Day. The event featured the official presentation of the GWR certificate, drawing notable guests, art enthusiasts, and advocates for autism inclusion.

Speaking at the event, Tagbo-Okeke’s father emphasized his son’s determination, stating that despite initial doubts from many, he proved his goal was achievable. “Many believed Kanyeyachukwu’s vision was unrealistic, but he has shown otherwise,” he said. “This is a moment of pride for autistic children worldwide, highlighting their extraordinary talents.”

Hannatu Musawa, Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, celebrated the young artist’s achievement, describing it as a victory for both him and the country. “We are here to honor Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, a remarkable young Nigerian, who has demonstrated the power of passion and perseverance,” she said. “His record-breaking feat proves that age is no barrier to greatness.

“This is more than just a world record; it’s a testament to determination, resilience, and the unyielding spirit of Nigerian youth. “We acknowledge the talents of individuals with autism and are committed to creating opportunities for them to excel in the creative industry.

“Kanyeyachukwu’s artwork, *Impossible is a Myth*, is not just a record-breaking masterpiece but also a symbol of inspiration for autistic individuals globally.” Cristian Munduate, UNICEF Nigeria representative, also applauded the achievement, saying, “Kanye’s success is a powerful reminder that every individual, regardless of ability, has limitless potential. Societies must foster inclusivity and equal opportunities.”

Born in November 2009, Kanye is a talented visual artist whose works have been exhibited in galleries and museums across Nigeria, Europe, and Africa. In 2018, his art was showcased alongside three other Nigerian artists at the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) in Vienna. His groundbreaking accomplishment, achieved in November 2024, surpassed the previous record of 9,652 square meters set by an artist in Qatar.
