Twenty individuals from the Kano delegation lost their lives in a road accident while returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State. The crash occurred on Saturday in Dakatsalle town, located about 50 kilometres from Kano, as the group made their way back.

The fatalities included athletes, journalists, medical staff, and sports administrators, according to the chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Kano, Zahraddeen Saleh. Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Mustapha Kwankwaso, confirmed the incident and noted that survivors who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical care. He expressed profound sadness over the tragedy.

Speaking on behalf of the state government, Kwankwaso extended condolences to the victims’ families and the entire sporting community, describing the event as a devastating loss. He assured that the government would provide necessary medical and emotional support to those affected.
