The Federal Government has begun paying the backlog of the new N77,000 monthly allowance to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).In September 2024, the government increased the monthly allowance for NYSC members from N33,000 to N77,000, citing the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 as the reason for the raise.

However, the new allowance came into effect only in March 2025, meaning many corps members who completed their service before this date are entitled to arrears. Despite rumors that these former corps members might not receive the back pay, the government assured that all eligible corps members would be paid their arrears regardless of their current service status.

The government appears to be fulfilling this commitment, as several ex-corps members have shared the news on social media. Mary Joe posted about receiving her arrears, saying, “This is so amazing—I didn’t see it coming. The federal government made a promise and kept it. Guys, I just received my arrears, so if you’re an ex-corper from Batch A1 2024, check your alert.” Engr Saleesu Sb wrote on Facebook, “I just received 44k in my Globus account. 2024 A1. It’s like arrears are dropping.”

Lumex Philemon also commented on Facebook, “Plateau ex-corper batch A stream 2. Received mine.”The backlog payment being processed is N44,000, which seems to cover only one month. It remains unclear if the payments will continue monthly, as most members are owed about three months’ worth of arrears.
