The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has officially presented a nomination form to its immediate past president, Lucky Emonefe, as he seeks election into the House of Representatives for Delta State’s Ethiope Federal Constituency. The form was presented in Abuja on Wednesday by NANS President Olusola Ladoja, who said the association purchased it in appreciation of Emonefe’s impactful leadership and commitment to Nigerian students during his time in office.
Ladoja described the move as a clear endorsement of Emonefe’s leadership credentials, noting that his tenure was marked by dedication, integrity, and service to the student community. He also called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support former student leaders contesting elective offices during the party primaries, with particular emphasis on Emonefe’s candidacy.
According to him, Emonefe’s role in advancing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), alongside his support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, makes him a strong contender for the position. Ladoja added that giving opportunities to individuals with established records in student leadership could boost the ruling party’s appeal among young Nigerians nationwide.
Responding to the gesture, Emonefe thanked the current NANS leadership for what he described as an unexpected but motivating show of confidence. He said the support demonstrates the trust Nigerian students have placed in him and promised to provide responsive and people-focused representation if elected. The aspirant pledged to champion youth empowerment, education, economic opportunities, transparency, and inclusive governance. The event drew attendance from student leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, many of whom praised the initiative as a positive step toward greater youth participation in Nigeria’s political process.
