The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 students in connection with the killings of two secondary school students in Bichi Local Government Area.Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the arrests on Thursday, stating that the suspects are currently being interrogated to determine their roles in the incident. He assured the public that a full investigation is underway and that anyone found culpable would face prosecution.

The State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has also launched an inquiry into the deaths of the students, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, who attended Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi. Reports suggest the students were attacked with metal objects locally known as “Gwale-Gwale,” allegedly by fellow students as punishment for a supposed offence.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, and Permanent Secretary, Bashir Baffa Muhammad, promised a transparent and thorough investigation. They stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.

The Permanent Secretary, who visited the school, advised students to avoid mob actions and to report grievances to school authorities instead of resorting to violence. He offered condolences to the bereaved families, praying for the departed souls to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.
