According to The Cable, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, confirmed the news on Monday. He stated that the actor died on Sunday and that his remains have been deposited at a morgue in Abuja. “Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. Slept and did not wake up. We await further details from the family. His body is in the morgue in Abuja, where the sad incident happened,” Yakubu was quoted as saying.
Akiyesi was born in Ososo, located in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, where he also completed his early education before proceeding to the University of Ibadan for his tertiary studies. Over the course of his career, he worked as an actor, producer, and director, featuring in films such as ‘Deadly Affair’ (1995), ‘Olaedo the Fisher Girl 2’ (2015), ‘Gen Z Wife’ (2024), ‘Kiss My Pain’, and ‘Heart of a Saint’, among others.
He was also a member of the board of the Actors Guild of Nigeria and served as President of the National Association of Ososo Creatives.In April 2013, his wedding to his second wife, Uloma Agwu, was interrupted at Overcomers Church World Outreach when his first wife, Lilian, appeared at the ceremony, insisting that their marriage was still legally valid.
Lilian, who was pregnant at the time, arrived with friends and entered the church just as the officiating minister was about to begin the ceremony. The situation caused a disturbance, which required police intervention to restore order. The actor later apologised for the incident.
