The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that a new substantive Vice-Chancellor has been appointed. The reports, which alleged that former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, had been appointed to the role, were described by the university as false and misleading.

In an official statement issued over the weekend and signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu, the university condemned the reports as the product of mischief-makers and purveyors of falsehood. The statement clarified that the selection process for a new Vice-Chancellor is still ongoing and that no candidate has been confirmed or officially announced by the university’s governing council.

“The general public is advised to disregard these unfounded reports,” the statement said.It further noted that the selection committee, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Engr. Kayode Ojo, is actively carrying out its duties and will announce the most qualified candidate once the process is completed.UNN reiterated its commitment to a transparent and merit-driven selection process and urged all stakeholders to remain calm and allow the procedure to conclude without interference.
