The Nigeria Police Force has repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to China in what authorities described as a major victory against transnational organized crime. Mr. Dai, a gang leader wanted for violent crimes in Guizhou Province, fled China in 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Zhijin County Public Security Bureau. He was tracked down and arrested by INTERPOL operatives in Abuja on August 8, 2025, before being flown back to Beijing on August 15 under a police-to-police cooperation framework.
The operation was coordinated by INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Abuja in collaboration with its Beijing counterpart and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, described the repatriation as proof of Nigeria’s commitment to global security. “This operation sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives,” he said, stressing the importance of intelligence-sharing and international cooperation in tackling crime networks.
Force spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, added that the case demonstrated Nigeria’s determination to uphold the rule of law while strengthening its reputation as a trusted partner in global law enforcement.
