Abdul Jabar Adama has made history as the first Nigerian swimmer to win a medal at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Romania.The 17-year-old clinched Silver in the men’s 50m Butterfly with a time of 23.64 seconds, narrowly behind Great Britain’s Dean Fearn, who took Gold in 23.54 seconds.

Adama also shattered two Nigerian records on the same day, lowering his own national mark from 23.81 to 23.61 in the heats, and then 23.48 in the semifinals before the final. His breakthrough has sparked hopes that Nigeria may have unearthed a future Olympic medal contender for Los Angeles 2028.
