The family of Ruth Otabor has announced her death on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m. The announcement was made through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, who represent the Otabor family, including Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7.

Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, had been battling for her life after a tragic accident on Wednesday, August 13, involving a Dangote truck. The accident led to the amputation of one of her legs. Justice Segun Ojienoh of Eko Solicitors confirmed the family’s instructions to issue the statement: “With a heavy heart the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025, at about 06:30hrs. The family is presently grieving and will appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed.”

Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public at a later date.Last week, Phyna publicly expressed anguish over her sister’s condition, accusing Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and his company of negligence in handling Ruth’s case. Ruth, who graduated just six days before the accident, had suffered severe internal injuries in addition to the amputation. Phyna alleged that the Dangote Group delayed her sister’s evacuation abroad for treatment despite prior assurances. “Dangote is gambling with my sister’s life. Her lungs, bladder, and reproductive organs are gone… If it were Dangote’s child in Ruth’s condition, would he not fly her out?” she wrote on social media.
