A Nigerian teenager has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the United Kingdom for the killing of a 21-year-old man.Jackson Uwagboe, 19, of Hamilton Street in Lewisham, fled to Nigeria after what prosecutors described as a vicious attack in south-east London. Uwagboe was found guilty on February 10 at the Old Bailey of murdering Robert Robinson on June 6, 2024, in Deptford.

On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years for murder, as well as robbery and possession of a bladed article. Two other men, Ryan Wedderburn, 18, and Kirk Harris, 19, were previously convicted of Robinson’s murder in May last year and also received life sentences. Wedderburn was ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years, while Harris was given a minimum term of 22 years and nine months.

The Metropolitan Police said Robinson sustained multiple serious knife injuries during the attack and died at the scene on Carteret Way in Deptford.Police said all three attackers fled after the incident, with Uwagboe leaving the country shortly afterwards. He later returned to the UK on February 25, 2025, and was arrested at Gatwick Airport on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector Neil Tovey, who led the investigation, said Robinson was unarmed and subjected to a sustained group attack. He added that Uwagboe’s claim of self-defence was entirely unfounded. Tovey said the convictions delivered justice for Robert Robinson and his family, who were forced to endure two trials because of Uwagboe’s decision to flee the country.
