The Ghanaian government has warned it may shut down DStv services in the country over the company’s refusal to reduce subscription prices. Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, issued the threat on Friday through a statement on his official X account.

In response, MultiChoice, owners of DStv, released a statement dated September 5, 2025, clarifying its stance. The company said it is engaging with the minister to find a mutually beneficial solution but stressed it had not agreed to any price reduction. “We will fully participate in the established Working Committee. However, we wish to clarify that MultiChoice Group has not agreed to a price reduction,” the statement read.

George, however, described DStv’s position as disrespectful to Ghanaians. He warned that if MultiChoice failed to honour earlier indications of willingness to discuss price cuts, the National Communications Authority (NCA) would move to enforce a shutdown.

“No company is above the law,” the minister stated, adding that the government remains open to businesses that respect Ghana’s laws and institutions. He said MultiChoice could return to the negotiation table whenever it is ready to discuss subscription reductions.
