Dangote Cement has officially commenced operations at its new plant in Attingué, located about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with an annual production target of 3 million metric tonnes (mt) of high-quality cement products. Serge Gbotta, Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, announced the development during a press briefing at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory. According to a company statement released over the weekend, the 50-hectare state-of-the-art facility represents an investment of 100 billion CFA francs.

“This strategic project embodies Aliko Dangote’s vision of building a self-sufficient Africa that is less dependent on imports and capable of transforming its resources into world-class finished products,” Gbotta said. With this development, Côte d’Ivoire becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production plant. The Dangote Group now boasts a total production capacity of 55 million tonnes per year across the continent.

The Attingué plant is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, boosting local employment opportunities for youth and supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in related sectors such as logistics, construction, and retail. “This plant is more than an industrial unit – it is a symbol of confidence in Côte d’Ivoire’s future,” Gbotta added. “Our goal is to provide Ivorians with world-class cement, produced locally and offered at competitive prices.”

To enhance local expertise, the company plans to introduce training programmes for engineers and technicians through the Dangote Academy.Commercial Director Stéphane Tchimou emphasised the plant’s role in strengthening the construction sector, noting that its reliable cement products will be distributed nationwide through an extensive network. He also announced the introduction of credit facilities and commercial assistance to empower small retailers and fortify the value chain.

Dangote Cement also reaffirmed its commitment to community development projects in the Attingué area, including road construction, clean water initiatives, and support for local healthcare facilities, in collaboration with local authorities and NGOs.

Group President Aliko Dangote reiterated the company’s dedication to driving Africa’s economic growth, saying, “Africa is full of opportunities. Our mission is to tell a new story – one of innovation, production, and progress for future generations.”

The Attingué plant will produce three main cement grades: CPJ 32.5R for masonry, CPJ 42.5N for building works, and CPA 52.5 for large infrastructure projects. The facility is expected to reduce cement imports significantly and position Côte d’Ivoire as a regional hub for cement production and export.
