Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua and his bride, Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, have made history by exchanging vows aboard a moving, fully decorated train — Nigeria’s first-ever “train wedding.” The landmark ceremony took place on Sunday on the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge Railway, where a coach at the Mobolaji Johnson Train Station was transformed into an elegant venue on wheels. Departing from the Alagomeji–Yaba station, the couple and their guests journeyed across the tracks as they celebrated their love in motion.

Following their traditional marriage rites, the white wedding continued in unconventional fashion. As the train glided along its route, the beautifully decorated carriage, filled with music, flowers, and joyful guests — including Nollywood star Stan Nze — became the setting for the emotional exchange of vows, rings, and a memorable first kiss.

The concept was the brainchild of the bride, Sharon, a professional event planner, who turned her creative vision into a cinematic, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Viral videos from the ceremony captured moments such as the bridal party rushing aboard before departure, giving the event an adventurous and spontaneous flair.

Beyond its sentimental value, the wedding doubled as a showcase of modern love and modern infrastructure. The Nigerian Railway Corporation welcomed the attention, hailing the moment and sharing playful remarks on social media. “From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track,” the NRC posted. “History made — the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination.”

The celebration has since lit up social media, with Nigerians applauding the couple’s creativity and the novelty of the event. For many, it symbolised a blend of romance, innovation, and national progress. The Faquas’ wedding has set a remarkable new precedent for unforgettable ceremonies in Nigeria — a celebration of love, imagination, and forward momentum, rolling across the tracks one mile at a time.
