The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has foiled an organised attempt to move vandalised railway materials across state borders, resulting in the arrest of five suspects. Acting on reliable intelligence on January 12, 2026, operatives stationed along the Miri–Jos Road intercepted a long truck near Gital town in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. The truck, bearing registration number MDB 360 XA, was reportedly heading toward Nigeria’s eastern region.

A search of the vehicle revealed 80 pieces of railway tracks and five pairs of slippers concealed beneath bags of chicken feed, a tactic believed to have been used to evade security checks. The NSCDC spokesperson, Saminu Yusuf, confirmed the operation, explaining that personnel intercepted a truck transporting vandalised railway tracks disguised with poultry feed and slippers. In addition to the truck and the recovered items, officers also seized a Lexus RX 330 with registration number BWR 60 DN.

The five suspects currently in custody were identified as Adam Kolo from Borno State, Samuel Musa from Yobe State, Solomon Jankaro from Niger State, and Emmanuel Collins and Sunday David, both from Enugu State. Security operatives are now working to arrest the alleged ringleader, identified simply as Mr John, as well as the truck driver, Auwal, who both escaped during the operation and are still on the run.In a separate operation carried out on January 14, 2026, NSCDC operatives arrested Nura Abdullahi in Bauchi metropolis over his alleged role in a motorcycle theft ring. He reportedly confessed to buying stolen motorcycles and selling eight of them to a buyer in Plateau State for about ₦2.02 million. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the syndicate and recover the stolen motorcycles.

Commending the operatives for their commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure, the Bauchi State Commandant, Oloyede Nelson, warned that the corps would not relent in its efforts to eliminate vandalism in the state. He also called on members of the public living near public facilities to support security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the NSCDC or other relevant agencies.
