Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is expected to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026. The planned appearance follows reports of an attempted arrest by security operatives on Thursday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, shortly after El-Rufai returned from Cairo, Egypt, aboard an EgyptAir flight.

El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, confirmed that the EFCC had earlier invited his client in December 2025 while he was outside the country for medical treatment and rest. Akpan said there had been continuous engagement with the commission, adding that El-Rufai had given assurances he would honour the invitation upon his return to Nigeria.
