The Nigerian Army has recaptured its forward operating base in Ngoshe town in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.According to Daily Trust, the operation was carried out with support from members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), as well as local vigilante and hunters’ groups.

The development follows an attack last week in which Boko Haram terrorists reportedly k!lled 14 soldiers and several civilians, while abducting more than 100 women and children.Earlier on Friday, a military source said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) visited Pulka and later mobilised about 200 troops into the deserted town of Ngoshe to assess the situation before leaving the area.

At least 60 soldiers were reportedly left behind but later withdrew to Pulka after noticing the movement of a large number of terrorists believed to be preparing a counterattack. “The brigade commander of Gwoza met us in Pulka and assured us of support. Today (Wednesday), we were able to recapture Ngoshe after engaging the remaining insurgents in a gun battle,” the source said. He added that the town is now fully under the control of the military.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, summoned the service chiefs to Abuja over the renewed wave of attacks. Speaking before the meeting went into a closed-door session, the minister said authorities had agreed to review their strategies in order to intensify operations against the terrorists. “We know we have recorded some casualties, but it is more on the side of the terrorists,” he said.
