Ashleigh Plumptre has begun a rehabilitation programme in the United Kingdom following a successful surgery on her left foot, according to reports. The Al-Ittihad Ladies Club defender shared an update on Sunday via Instagram, reflecting on her recovery period and the support she has received since undergoing the procedure.
In her post, she expressed gratitude for being back home for the surgery and appreciated the backing of her club during this phase of her career. She also shared a series of images showing her recovery journey in the UK, including visits to places like the Tate Modern art gallery in London, as well as moments with her family while using crutches and a wheelchair.
The Saudi Pro League side had earlier confirmed that Plumptre underwent a successful operation and will now continue treatment and rehabilitation under the supervision of the club’s medical team as she works toward returning to training. Her surgery marks an important step in addressing a recurring foot issue that has sidelined her for some time.
Club medical staff expect her rehabilitation to last several months as she follows a structured recovery plan, representing a setback for the Super Falcons defender. This is her second major injury since joining the Saudi-based club, following a lengthy layoff in March 2024 that disrupted a strong debut season in which she scored eight goals in 12 appearances.
The injury also ruled her out of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, preventing her from featuring for Nigeria on the global stage. Despite these challenges, Plumptre remains focused on her recovery with the aim of regaining full fitness ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for July.
